Church of Monteil (Cad. AB 93): registration by decree of 28 June 1974
Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre du Monteil is a religious building located in the commune of Crestet, in Ardèche, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built in the 12th century, it is a typical example of the Romanesque architecture of this period in south-eastern France. Its inscription as a historical monument in 1974 reflects its heritage importance and the desire to preserve this medieval heritage.
In the 12th century, churches like Saint Peter of Monteil played a central role in the lives of rural communities. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants, reflecting the social and religious organization of the time. In a region like the Ardèche, marked by a strong seigneurial and ecclesiastical presence, these buildings were often at the heart of local activities, whether spiritual, economic or political.
