Origin and history

The church Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Ménilles, located in the department of Eure in Normandy, is a religious building built between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries. The portal, dating from the 14th and 15th centuries, is distinguished by its carved wooden vantals, while the rest of the church, erected in the 15th and 16th centuries, illustrates the architectural evolutions of this pivotal period between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. This monument, classified and partially inscribed since 1952, reflects the importance of parish churches in the social and spiritual organization of Norman villages at that time.

The church gate, classified by decree of 20 June 1952, is a notable example of late Gothic art, with its finely worked wooden vantals. The rest of the building, listed in the inventory of Historical Monuments by decree of 18 June 1952 (with the exception of the already classified gate), has architectural features of the 15th and 16th centuries, marked by both Gothic and renaissant influences. The location of the church in the heart of the village of Menilles underlines its central role in community life, both for religious offices and as a gathering place.

The legal protection of the church, with a distinction between the classified gate and the rest of the registered building, bears witness to the heritage value of this monument. The mention of its communal property in the available sources indicates its anchoring in the local heritage, managed and preserved by the municipality. The location data, although considered "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10), allow the building to be located at the approximate address of 9 Rue Roederer, confirming its integration into the historic urban fabric of Ménilles.
