Origin and history

The Saint Quentin church of Luc-sur-Mer is a Catholic building located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of Calvados in Normandy. Its construction mainly dates back to the 12th century, although traces of an earlier church, dating from the first half of the 11th century, were identified. Only the bell tower of this Romanesque period survived until today, while a second level, added to the 13th century, has a Gothic style.

The church bell tower, the most remarkable architectural element, was classified as historical monuments by order of 12 July 1886. This ranking reflects its heritage significance and historical value. Moreover, renovations are planned for 2025, although this information still needs to be confirmed by official sources. The building remains a symbol of local religious and architectural heritage.

Available sources, including the writings of Arcisse de Caumont in his monumental Statistics of Calvados (1846), mention the church as a representative example of Christian architecture in Lower Normandy. Today, the bell tower, owned by the commune, continues to dominate the landscape of Luc-sur-Mer, recalling the medieval heritage of the region.
