Saint Quentin Church: Order of 22 October 1913
Origin and history
Saint Quentin de Saint-Quentin-de-Chalais is a Catholic building located in the Charente department, New Aquitaine. Built mainly in the second half of the 12th century, it underwent major modifications in the 15th century, including the addition of side chapels in the 14th century. Its architecture combines a vaulted nave in a cradle, reinforced by double arches carried by half-columns, while the cross of the transept and the nave supports the bell tower.
Classified as historical monuments by order of 22 October 1913, the church belongs to the commune of Saint-Quentin-de-Chalais. Its plan reflects a stylistic evolution typical of the rural churches of the region, where the original Romanesque elements were enriched by Gothic additions. The nave, characteristic of Romanesque art, contrasts with later added lateral chapels, illustrating medieval architectural transformations.
The building, still communal property, bears witness to local religious and architectural history. Its classification in 1913 underscores its heritage value, while its location in the Bourg de Saint-Quentin-de-Chalais makes it a central historical landmark for the commune. Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its importance in the Charentais and Aquitaine heritage.
