Origin and history

The church of Saint-Rémi d'Ormes, located in the Marne, is a religious building of Romanesque architecture built in the 12th century. It is dedicated to Saint Rémi, a bishop of Reims who played a major role in the Christian history of the region. The church has been classified as historical monuments, highlighting its heritage and architectural importance.

The church suffered significant damage during the First World War, a conflict that profoundly marked the architectural heritage of the region. Despite these destructions, she retained remarkable elements of her Romanesque architecture, such as her ceiling nave, her choir with a cul-de-four apse, and a Romanesque tower at the crossroads of transepts.

Inside, the church houses several classified statues, representing Saint Rémi, Saint Barbe of Heliopolis, Saint Fiacre and a Virgin to the Child. These works bear witness to the artistic and religious richness of the place. The building is now owned by the commune of Ormes and remains a symbol of the local heritage.

The church was officially listed as a historic monument by an order of October 5, 1920. This classification reflects its historical and architectural value, while ensuring its preservation for future generations. Its location in the department of Marne, in the Grand Est region, makes it a key element of the Champagne heritage.
