Origin and history
The church of Saint-Rémy de Deneuvre is a Catholic church built in 1747 in the commune of Deneuvre, in Meurthe-et-Moselle (Great East region). Its architecture and organ, partially modified in the 19th century, testify to its historical and religious importance. The organ buffet, adorned with a bicephalous eagle reminiscent of Verdun's weapons before 1552, today retains only its original façade, composed of a large body with three turrets and a positive two turret.
The church organ, attributed by local tradition to Jean Jodoc Vonesch, underwent several transformations: modification of its instrumental part in 1827 by an anonymous factor, renewal of the pipes and the wind tunnel by the house Jaquot-Jeanpierre between 1886 and 1895, and disassembly of the back positive in 1923 by the factor Voegtlé d'Epinal. These interventions reflect the technical and artistic evolution of organs in Lorraine.
The church bell tower was classified as historical monuments by order of 30 March 1978, while the rest of the building (except the already classified bell tower) was inscribed on the same day. This double protection underlines the heritage value of the monument, both for its architecture and for its furniture, especially the organ whose history remains partially documented.
The location of Deneuvre, close to cities like Baccarat and Verdun, places this church in a historical context marked by the religious and artisanal influences of Lorraine. His organ, although partially altered, remains a significant example of the regional instrumental heritage, linked to the local organ factors and musical traditions of the Ancien Régime and the 19th century.
