Origin and history
The church Saint-Robert du Moustier is a 12th century Romanesque chapel located in Peyzac-le-Moustier, Dordogne. It belonged to a muster (prieuré), probably linked to the Roque-Saint-Christophe, and was already a parish in the year 1300 under the name Parochia monasterii. Its atypical architecture, not aligned east-west, includes a bell tower-wall with two campanary bays and a polygonal bedside.
The building, covered with lauzes, has a unique nave extended by a choir adorned with a black funerary liter with coat of arms. Outside, a fire precedes the ogival portal. The church was listed as historic monuments on January 9, 1926, recognizing its heritage value. The traces of missing ancillary buildings testify to its historical evolution.
Located in Black Perigord, near the Route départementale 6, it illustrates the medieval religious architecture of the region. Its status as a communal property and its inscription make it a key element of the local heritage, linked to the monastic and parish history of the Dordogne.
