Origin and history

The church Saint-Sauveur de Crest, located in the Drôme department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, is an emblematic monument to 19th-century neo-classical architecture. Built in the 2nd quarter of the 19th century, it replaced an earlier building that collapsed in 1836. The reconstruction, completed in 1847, was carried out on a site adjacent to the old church, with a north-south orientation to free a market place, thus reflecting the urban needs of the time.

Classified as historical monuments in 1983, the Church of Saint-Sauveur illustrates the importance of religious heritage in the region. Its structure, particularly that of the bell tower, was completely restored in 2010 by carpenter Marc Emilianof, highlighting the continuing efforts to preserve this heritage. The building is now owned by the municipality of Crest and remains a symbol of local history.

The church is also listed in heritage databases like Mérimée, and its exact address is 1 Rue Peyrollerie, 26400 Crest. His identified architect or contractor is H. Epailly, although little detailed information on his contribution is available. The accuracy of its location is estimated as fair, with GPS coordinates allowing it to be located in the city centre.
