Origin and history
The church of Saint-Simeon of Saint-Simeon, erected in the second half of the 19th century, replaces an earlier building destroyed. Its construction, entrusted to the architect Notté, began in 1868 and ended with a solemn inauguration on November 7, 1869, in the presence of the bishop of Meaux. The building adopts a neo-Gothic style, characteristic of the period, both in its architecture and in its interior decoration.
The interior of the church is entirely painted by Abbé Emal, parish priest from 1870 to 1899, who represents Saints, Kings and Symbols linked to the Christian identity of France. These frescoes, made in the neo-Gothic style, harmonize with the structure of the building. The nave and the choir, whose exact period of construction remains uncertain, underwent various works in the 19th century, including the search of the bays, the addition of a bell tower and a sacristy. The church was once under the patronage of Saint-Léger de Préaux Abbey (Eure).
Listed among the Historical Monuments, the Church of Saint-Siméon is protected by a decree of 18 November 1997. Owned by the commune, it embodies a local religious and artistic heritage, marked by the influence of Abbé Emal and the architect Noté. Its location, although documented (place de l'Église, Saint-Siméon), suffers from geographical accuracy deemed mediocre (note of 5/10).
