Origin and history
The church of St. Thomas of Pastoreccia, located in the municipality of Castello-di-Rostino in Corsica, is a Romanesque religious building dating from the 15th century. Its lateral walls and apse are partially decorated with frescoes, made at the end of the same century. These paintings, although partially preserved, bear witness to medieval Corsican sacred art and its influence in rural areas.
Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 26 April 1927, this church now belongs to the commune. Its sober architecture and interior decorations make it an example of small Corsican Romanesque churches, often isolated in mountain villages. The accuracy of its geographical location is considered satisfactory (note 7/10), and its official address is referenced in the Merimée database under Insee code 2B079, in Haute-Corse.
The frescoes of the late 15th century, although their author remains unknown, illustrate typical religious themes of the period. Their presence suggests that the church played a central role in the spiritual and community life of the village. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, events) or possible ancillary functions such as room rental or guest rooms.
