Origin and history

The church of Saint-Vallier de Bourguignons, located in the Aube department in the Grand Est region, is a religious building whose oldest parts date back to the 12th century, but whose current structure dates mainly from the 16th century. It is distinguished by an un vaulted nave and a three-sided apse, architectural characteristics of the transition between Gothic and Renaissance. Originally, it depended on the dean of Bar-sur-Seine and was part of the local bishop's collation, highlighting its importance in the medieval and modern ecclesiastical organization.

The church has been listed as one of the historical monuments since 1926 and has a remarkable movable heritage: two objects are classified and five others listed in the inventory of historical monuments. These elements testify to the artistic and liturgical richness of the place, as well as its central role in the spiritual and community life of Bourguignons.
