Origin and history

The church of Saint-Victor d'Autrêches is a parish Catholic church built in the 16th century in Gothic style. It is located in the commune of Autrêches, in the department of Oise, and is attached to the parish of Notre-Dame-de-Neufontaine in the valley of Aisne. This monument, emblematic of Renaissance religious architecture, bears witness to the importance of local heritage in this region.

The church suffered extensive damage during World War I, reducing the building to its masonries and crypt in 1918. The reconstruction work, carried out in the 1950s, restored the building while removing some carved parts, including those of the arrow, considered too costly to reconstruct. These interventions marked a key step in the preservation of this heritage.

Classified as historical monuments since October 22, 1913, Saint-Victor's Church is today a symbol of the resilience of religious heritage to conflict. It remains an active place of worship and an architectural testimony of local history, attracting visitors for its rich decor and turbulent history.
