Abbaye d’Abondance - Religious institution Managed the former church Our Lady of Cusy.

Origin and history

The church Sainte-Anne de Chens-sur-Léman finds its origins in an old building dedicated to Notre-Dame, located on the hamlet of Cusy. This building, dependent on the abbey of Abundance, was destroyed during the French Revolution. The fire that ravaged the church marked the end of this first place of worship, requiring further reconstruction.

The reconstruction of the church took place in 1827, this time at the capital of the commune. The new building adopted a Sardinian neoclassical style, characteristic of the Savoyard religious architecture of the time. This stylistic choice reflected the artistic and political influences of the region, then marked by its membership in the Kingdom of Sardinia before its attachment to France.

Among the remarkable elements of the church, a bell dating from 1566, offered to the parish in 1804, is distinguished by its historical inscription. This object, which witnessed the religious and political upheavals of Savoy, was classified as historical monuments in 1942, highlighting its exceptional heritage value.
