Origin and history
Sainte-Catherine du Cannet Church, a 16th-century religious building in the Alpes-Maritimes department, has been listed as a historical monument since 1926. Its history begins with the necessity of a place of worship for the hamlet, culminating in its completion on 6 March 1556. Parish autonomy, marked by the first baptism in 1560, played a key role in the emancipation of the Cannet vis-à-vis Cannes in 1774.
The church architecture reveals a progressive construction around a primitive chapel, with additions such as the southern and northern naves, as well as a late porch (1854). Its interior is distinguished by a vault adorned with 18th-century marouflées, walls decorated over 500 m2 (restored in 2001), and baroque furniture including altars, baptismal fonts, and ex-voto.
The church embodies an artistic and religious heritage, with elements such as the cross vault, paintings, and papers. Its inscription in 1926 highlights its historical value, while its location at 29 Rue Sainte-Catherine makes it a central point of the Cannet, property of the municipality and open to the visit.
