Origin and history

The church of Sainte-Élisabeth in Neuville-en-Avesnois is a religious building whose construction spans centuries, from the 16th to the 19th century. Located in the northern department, it embodies the architectural and spiritual evolution of this border region, marked by various influences over the ages. Its inscription as a Historic Monument in 1984 reflects its heritage value and the desire to preserve this emblematic place of worship.

The church's location in Neuville-en-Avesnois (code INSEE 59425) reflects its anchoring in a rural territory of Hauts-de-France, where parish churches played a central role in community life. These buildings served not only as places of prayer, but also as social and cultural landmarks for the inhabitants. The accuracy of its location (10 Rue Pasteur) and its ranking in the Mérimée base underline its importance in the local heritage.

Owned by the municipality, the Church of St. Elizabeth is today a witness to architectural transformations and religious practices over centuries. Although available sources (Monumentum, Mérimée data) do not detail the precise stages of its construction, its registration by decree of 6 December 1984 confirms its protected status. Protected elements, identified under cadastral reference A 424, include the entire building, reflecting its historical and artistic unity.
