Origin and history

Sainte-Présentine Church is a Catholic church located in the commune of Frontenac, Gironde, in the heart of the Entre-deux-Mers natural region. Dating mainly from the 12th century, it is distinguished by its isolation in a rural landscape, accessible by a small road linking Martres and Daubèze. 2.8 km from the town of Frontenac, it is marked by a arrow from the departmental road D123e10, known as the Sauveterre road.

Originally, this church was the parish church of Sallebruneau, a municipality now attached to Frontenac since 1965. Its architecture combines elements of the 12th century for the nave and 13th century for the choir, while its western part, in small apparatus, could go back to the 11th century. The building, surrounded by a cemetery, once housed an ancient statue that had now disappeared. Its present state is marked by the partial collapse of its roof.

Classified as historical monuments by order of 2 July 1987, Sainte-Psentine Church is owned by the commune of Frontenac. The protection order specifically concerns its facades as well as an old tomb with a patte cross located near its southern side. This monument illustrates the Romanesque religious heritage of the Gironde, in a preserved rural setting.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and the Merimée base, highlight its historical and architectural importance. The precise address, 2 Impasse Boissonneau, and its Insee code (33175) confirm its anchoring in the girondin territory, within the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The location, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10), allows to situate this monument in an agricultural environment characteristic of the Entre-deux-Mers.
