Origin and history

Sainte-Thérèse-des-Richardets Church is a Catholic religious building located in Noisy-le-Grand, Seine-Saint-Denis. Built between the 1960s and 1970s, it succeeds a first church dedicated to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, probably erected in the 1930s, shortly after the canonization of the latter in 1925. This first building, now disappeared, left its bell as a legacy, now integrated with the arrow of the new church.

The location of the current building, at 2 avenue Gabriel Péri, reflects its anchoring in the Richardets district, an area marked by the gradual urbanization of the Paris suburbs in the 20th century. The church thus embodies the architectural and religious evolution of this period, where the cultural needs of the growing populations have led to the reconstruction or expansion of many places of worship.

The choice to dedicate the church to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, canonized in 1925, is part of a growing popular devotion to this major spiritual figure of Catholicism. The re-use of the old church bell in the new structure symbolizes a form of historical and spiritual continuity between the two buildings, despite their temporal and architectural gap.
