apse, choir and bell tower: inscription by order of 27 january 1942

Origin and history

The church of Saint-Martin-Belle-Roche, located in the department of Saône-et-Loire in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is a building of Romanesque architecture. His old bell tower, as well as his apse and choir, have been listed as historical monuments since January 27, 1942. These elements demonstrate its heritage importance and its preservation over the centuries.

The semi-circular apse, adorned with lumbar bands, is pierced with three deep windows with a simple brazing and covered with lauze. The square bell tower, also decorated with lumbar bands, is distinguished by its last level separated by a stone cord and pierced with geminied bays. These architectural features illustrate the typical Romanesque style of the region.

The church, owned by the municipality, is located at the approximate address of the 5045 Impasse du Vieux Clocher. Although its detailed history is not fully documented in the available sources, its inscription in the title of historical monuments underlines its cultural and architectural value for Burgundy-Franche-Comté.
