Origin and history

The former bailiwick of justice of Crécy-Couvé, erected in 1754, is a late realization of the Marquise of Pompadour in its reorganization of the village. Built on an unoccupied land, the building adopts a U-shaped plan, with two wings in return on a garden delimiting a central courtyard. Its main façade is distinguished by a forebody surmounted by a triangular pediment, while the interior housed living rooms decorated with parquet floors, fireplaces and canvases from Vienna (now preserved in the United States).

This bailliage illustrates the 18th century judicial architecture, combining functionality and elegance. The protected elements include the entire building, its stone gates, its Bahut wall, as well as a wrought iron gate added during its conversion into a communal school. The ensemble, located in Place des Marronniers, rue d'Enfer and 7 rue du Relais, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 1 June 2023. The property now belongs to the municipality.

The interior decor, although partially dispersed, was a characteristic luxury of the Marquise de Pompadour. Vien's paintings, a major artist of the Enlightenment century, emphasized the prestige of this place dedicated to local justice. Today, the site maintains an approximate location (precision: 6/10), with GPS coordinates pointing to 1 Rue du Relais. Its current use (visits, rentals, guest rooms) is not specified in the available sources.
