Origin and history

The former Hotel de Rouyn, also known as Hotel de Rozières, is a building located in Saint-Mihiel, Meuse. Built in the early 18th century for the Rouyn family (sometimes confused with the Rosières family), it incorporates older elements, such as a chimney dated from the second half of the 16th century. This chimney could come from an earlier building or be a reuse, illustrating the complexity of its architectural history.

The hotel is distinguished by its ordered architecture, with an elevated ground floor, structured facades, and an external staircase with two converging climbs. Inside, the wooden staircases and the base of cut stone testify to a neat craftsmanship. The estate, including a garden and a closed courtyard of walls surmounted by balls, was listed at the Historic Monuments in 1995 for its heritage interest.

Although often associated with the family of Rozières, the hotel was initially located in a separate location, near the current Dr Thiéry street. Its state of conservation and its precise location (10 rue du Général-Audeoud) make it a remarkable example of the aristocratic habitat of Lorraine, mixing Renaissance and classical influences.
