Origin and history
The Ferré d'Hennebont well, located on Rue du Maréchal Joffre in Morbihan, was built in 1623 thanks to a subscription from the inhabitants of the district. This well, typical of 17th century utility architecture, reflects the importance of access to water for the urban communities of the time. Its designation as historic monuments in 1928 underscores its heritage value.
In 1825, the well underwent major restoration, during which an ornamental ironworks was added. This intervention helped to preserve its original structure while enriching its aesthetic aspect. The wrought iron superstructure, with its members assembled in a beam surmounted by a ball, is a remarkable example of 19th century craftsmanship.
The Ferré well is characterized by a slab-covered margin and a fountain terminal replacing the original pulley system. The pulleys and rinsels that support them have been preserved, testifying to its historical functioning. Owned by the municipality, this monument illustrates the evolution of hydraulic techniques and the attachment of Hennebontais to their heritage.
