A Roman building is located in the La Rose des Sables condominium and its supporting plot (Box BL 243): inscription by order of 15 May 1996

Origin and history

This monument is a Roman building vestige located in the city of Fréjus, in the department of Var. Dating from the Gallo-Roman period, it bears witness to the ancient occupation of this Mediterranean region, then called Julii Forum under the Roman Empire. The element is now integrated into a private condominium called La Rose des Sables, which limits its accessibility to the public.

The protection of this vestige was formalized by an inscription in the Historical Monuments on 15 May 1996, covering both the Roman structure and the plot on which it rests (cadastre BL 243). Although owned by a private company, this legal recognition underscores its heritage importance. The exact location at 200 Rue de l'Argentière remains approximate according to the available data, with a cartographic accuracy considered "passible" (note 5/10).

Fréjus, founded as a Roman colony around 49 BC, was a strategic crossroads between Italy and the Gallic provinces. The buildings of that time were often used for public purposes (thermal, fora) or military (reparts, warehouses). This vestige, although partially preserved, illustrates the Roman architectural heritage in an area today urbanized. No information is available on its specific original use or current state of storage.
