Origin and history
The ancient cloister of the Dominicans of Collioure, now partially visible in Anglet, is a medieval vestige of the 14th and 15th centuries. Originally integrated into the Dominican Convent of Collioure, one of the three establishments of this order in the Roussillon, there remains only the single-nave church and a span of the cloister. The latter was distinguished by seventeen arches of Ceret marble, supported by twin columns, and a marble portal. The whole was partly dismantled in the early 20th century, losing six capitals and bases after its sale to an antique dealer.
The convent of Collioure, less imposing than that of Perpignan, illustrates the implantation of Dominicans in the region. The preserved span, classified as Historic Monument in 1928, was transferred to Anglet before returning to Collioure in 1996. Its present state reflects the vicissitudes of its conservation, between dispersion and partial restoration. The local marbles, typical of the Roussillon craft, underline the link between this heritage and regional resources.
The current location of the cloister, both in Anglet (administrative address) and Collioure (site of origin and return in 1996), reveals a turbulent history. GPS coordinates place the monument near the road to Port-Vendres, while its classification protects the remaining walls. The lack of details about its public accessibility limits practical information, but its status as a Historical Monument makes it a key witness to the medieval religious heritage in Occitanie.
