Origin and history
The Old House of the Éperon is a monument located at Mont-Saint-Michel, Normandy, built in the 14th and 15th centuries. This building, inscribed in the Historical Monuments since 1928, bears witness to the medieval civil architecture of this period. Its facades and roofs, protected by decree, are the only elements explicitly mentioned as being the subject of heritage conservation.
Mont-Saint-Michel, an emblematic site of the Middle Ages, was at that time a major pilgrimage site and a religious and military centre. Houses such as the Eperon house probably served as homes for artisans, merchants or members of the religious community. Their presence reflects the social and economic organization of the abbey and its town, where spiritual activities and daily life coexisted.
Available data indicate that the precise location of the house is approximate, with an address identified in the Merimée base as being located on the Grande Rue. The accuracy of this location is considered poor (note 5/10), suggesting uncertainties about its exact location. No additional information on its past use or potential owners is provided by the sources consulted.
