Fireplace sarrazine; roof on which it is placed: classification by decree of 22 November 1930

Origin and history

La Ferme du Colombier is a rural building located in the commune of Saint-Sulpice, in the department of Ain, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This monument is particularly remarkable for its sarrazine fireplace, an architectural element typical of some French regions, as well as its associated roof. These characteristics earned him a classification as historical monuments by decree of 22 November 1930, thus highlighting his heritage importance and historical interest.

In the Bresse region, to which Saint-Sulpice belongs, traditional farms played a central role in the economic and social life of local communities. These farms, often organized around stone or wood buildings, reflected the main activities of the population, such as livestock farming, cereal farming or wheat production. Sarrazine chimneys, such as that of the Colombian farm, were not only functional elements for the evacuation of smoke, but also distinctive architectural markers, reflecting local construction techniques and past cultural influences.

These farms also served as gathering places and collective work, strengthening social ties within villages.
