Origin and history

The Priou farm, located in Villefranche-d'Astarac in Gers, is an emblematic place of the French Resistance during the Second World War. On July 6, 1944, 76 guerrillas of Dr. Raynaud's group found death there, marking a tragic episode of the struggle against the German occupation. This site has become a symbol of sacrifice and collective memory for the region.

The memorial, inaugurated in 1947, was designed by the architects Hebrard and Bienvenu, with bas-reliefs carved by X. Lefebure, X. Letu, L.-G. Buisseret and F. Guinard. It incorporates the ruins of the old farm, preserved as historical testimony. Ranked in 1995, the site is now owned by the Gers department, perpetuating the memory of the resistors.

The location of the monument, although documented (address: Meilhan, 32420 Villefranche), remains approximate according to available sources. GPS coordinates suggest an area near Dunon, in the same municipality. This historic and memorial site attracts visitors interested in the history of the Resistance in Occitanie.
