Stone cross of the old cemetery, near the church: inscription by decree of 31 May 1951
Origin and history
La Croix de Fegréac is a monumental cross located in the commune of Fégréac, in the Loire-Atlantique department, in the Pays de la Loire region. Dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, it is located behind the church of Saint-Méréal, in the old cemetery. This type of cross, typical of rural areas in western France, often served as a religious and funeral landmark for local communities.
The cross was inscribed as historical monuments by order of 31 May 1951, thus recognizing its heritage value. Today it belongs to the municipality of Fégréac. Cemetery crosses, like this one, played a central role in the social and spiritual life of villages, marking burial places and serving as a gathering point for religious ceremonies.
The available data, from sources such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, indicate that it is a stone cross, characteristic of the funeral buildings of that time. Its exact location, 3 Rue Hôtel Denis, and its Insee code (44057) confirm its anchoring in the territory of Fégréac, near Nantes.
