Origin and history

The feudal motte of Oudezeele is a historical monument located in the commune of the same name, in the department of Nord (Hautes-de-France). This site, typical of medieval defensive constructions, dates from the Middle Ages and illustrates the fortification techniques of this time. Its inscription as a Historical Monument by decree of 2 March 1979 underlines its heritage importance.

Feudal mottes, such as that of Oudezeele, were generally built to control a territory and serve as refuge for the local population. In the Middle Ages, these structures played a key role in the social and military organization of local lords. Their strategic location, often near communication routes or water points, reflected their defensive and symbolic power function.

The precise location of the motte is indicated as being at 659 Rue du Château in Oudezeele, with geographical accuracy deemed satisfactory (note 7/10). This site is protected under Historic Monuments, with an inscription specifically covering the feudal motte (cadastre C 345).
