Origin and history
La Ferme de la Grange du Clou is a farm in Saint-Cyr-sur-Menthon, in the department of Ain. It illustrates the model of the Bressane locateries, small agricultural properties characteristic of this region. Its architecture, including its polygonal sarrazine fireplace, reflects local constructive traditions, blending pea and wooden structures. Classified as a historical monument in 1994, it includes a farm body, a well and an annex building, bearing witness to the rural organization of D .
The construction of the farm dates back to the 16th century, with a house built at the beginning of the period, followed by extensions in the 17th and 18th centuries. In the 19th century, a south wing was added, completing the whole. Owned by the department of Ain until 2022, it was transferred to the community of communes of Veyle. Between 2002 and 2004, a restoration campaign preserves this heritage, a symbol of the Brazilian agricultural know-how and its evolution throughout the centuries.
The farm embodies the rural history of Bresse, a region marked by prosperous agriculture and constructive techniques adapted to local resources. The pise, a traditional raw earth-based material, and the sarrazine chimneys, designed for optimal heat diffusion, illustrate the ingenuity of the peasants. Ranked for its heritage value, it offers a tangible testimony to the way of life and the agricultural economy of the past, which is now being promoted for the public.
