Origin and history

La Ferme de la Perrière, located in Crouy in the department of Aisne (Hauts-de-France), is a building dating back to the 13th century. Ranked a historic monument since 1928, it is one of the few architectural testimonies of this period in the region. Today, there is only a double portal flanked by a cylindrical tower, characteristic elements of medieval fortified farms.

According to some sources, the remains could also belong to a fortified priory, potentially rebuilt or modified in the 15th century. This hypothesis, put forward by historian Salch, suggests an earlier religious occupation, although the material evidence remains limited to the structures visible today.

During the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, the farm played a strategic role: it was occupied by a squadron of Prussian leathers during the siege of Soissons. These soldiers established a surveillance post there to control the roads leading to Chauny and Laon, illustrating its geographical importance in the military conflicts of the time.

During the First World War, the farm was found on the front line of the Chemin des Dames, a particularly deadly area. Although the sources do not specify its state after the fighting, this location exposes its history to the violence of the two major conflicts that marked the region in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The elements protected by the 1928 Order are limited to the remains of 13th century buildings, highlighting their heritage value. The farm thus embodies several historical strata: agricultural with its initial vocation, religious with the hypothesis of the priory, and military through its use in modern wars.
