Fronts and roofs of the farm, hangar and shed (Box B 570): inscription by order of 19 September 1988

Origin and history

La Sabartarié Farm, located in Viviers-lès-Montagnes, is a historic monument registered since 1988. It once depended on the chartreuse of Saix, a Cartusian monastery, and revolved around a rectangular inner courtyard. The buildings, arranged on three sides, include a house to the south, a barn marked by a terracotta beef head, and a hay barn with bays in the middle of the hangar and clear airways.

The facades and roofs of the farm, as well as the hangar and shed, have been protected since the 1988 registration order. The house, located in the centre of the south wing, has bays in the middle of the ground floor, surmounted by a floor of bedrooms and d ́occupy. The perpendicular wing houses the stable, while the third wing, parallel to a hangar, contains the hay barn and a building in L keeping agricultural machinery.

The farm architecture reflects a typical organization of agricultural estates linked to religious institutions in the Middle Ages or modern times. The presence of the terracotta beef head on the stable underscores its agricultural use, while the defensive or utility elements, such as clearways, illustrate an adaptation to the practical needs of the holding.
