Origin and history

La Ferme de Montalibord is a farm located in Vescours, in the Ain department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This monument is distinguished by the presence of a Saracen fireplace, an architectural element typical of medieval rural buildings. The oldest part of the farm, including this chimney, was dated 1450, making it a rare testimony to the rural architecture of that time.

The farm was classified as historic monuments by order of 13 November 1974, thereby recognizing its heritage value. The main building, with a simple construction on the ground floor, features a roof partially supported by posts to the east, housing a staircase. This type of structure reflects the traditional construction techniques of the region, adapted to the agricultural and domestic needs of the time.

The buckwheat fireplace, an emblematic element of the farm, is mentioned in the works of Gabriel Jeanton, specialist in this type of work. This architectural detail, combined with the precise dating of 1450, underscores the historical importance of this site. The farm is referenced in the Mérimée base and is one of the historical monuments of the Ain, illustrating the rural heritage of the Bresse.
