Origin and history

The farm of Ratelle, located in the municipality of Belvèze (Tarn-et-Garonne), is an emblematic example of the Quercy Blanc farms. Most of the 18th century, it underwent partial reconstructions in the 19th century, thus illustrating the evolution of the agricultural and architectural techniques of this region. Its registration as a Historic Monument by order of 6 February 1995 bears witness to its heritage importance and preservation for future generations.

Ratelle's farm embodies the traditional rural lifestyle of Quercy Blanc, a region marked by cereal and pastoral farming. The farms of that time played a central role in the local economy, serving both as a place of production, storage and housing for peasant families. Their architecture, often sober and functional, reflected the practical needs of agricultural activities and community life.

The location of the farm, specified with satisfactory reliability (level 7/10), is documented in the Merimée base under the Insee code 82016, confirming its anchoring in the territory of Belvèze. The protected elements include the old farm itself, identified under cadastre B 1557. This official recognition underscores its status as a heritage to be preserved, while offering a concrete testimony to the rural history of Occitanie.
