Origin and history
La Ferme des Templiers de Verlinghem is a historic monument located in the commune of Verlinghem, in the department of Nord (59), in the Hauts-de-France region. This site is identified as a remnant linked to the order of Templars, although the precise details of its foundation and historical use remain little documented in available sources. The building is partially protected, with its northwest face classified by ministerial decree since 1920.
This type of farm, often associated with medieval religious or military orders, played a central role in the local economy. The Templars, known for their network of commissions and farms, exploited these lands to support their activities in Europe and the Holy Land. In Verlinghem, as in other parts of the North, these settlements helped to structure the territory, combining agriculture, livestock farming and sometimes welcoming pilgrims or travellers.
The Templar presence in this region reflects the strategic importance of the Hauts-de-France in the Middle Ages, a crossroads between Flanders, Artois and Hainaut.
