Origin and history

The farm of the Vacherie, located in Oberlarg in the Haut-Rhin, is an agricultural building built over the 18th and 19th centuries. Certified as early as 1740, it was one of the five remaining farms of this period in the region. Its architecture includes a house, a barn dated 1784, and a barn, organized almost in line. A wooden appentis, formerly attached to the gable wall of the barn, was replaced by a wooden hangar backed by the drop-up wall, reflecting subsequent adaptations.

The barn, a central part of the site, bears the 1784 vintage, confirming its origin in the 18th century. The farm was listed as historic monuments by order of 22 June 2007, thereby recognizing its heritage value. This type of farm illustrates the traditional Alsatian agricultural organization, where house, barn and stable formed a coherent functional set, adapted to the needs of the farms of the time.

The site, now fully protected (logis, barn, barn and land), bears witness to the architectural and agricultural practices of the 18th and 19th centuries. Its inscription in 2007 underlines its importance in the rural heritage of Haut-Rhin, while offering a concrete example of the evolution of agricultural structures in Alsace. The precise location, at the rural road of Oberlarg, strengthens its anchor in the local historical landscape.
