Origin and history
La Maison du Cheval Blanc is a farm built in 1776, in the heart of the village of Bélieu, in the Doubs department. This iconic building, inscribed in historical monuments since 1992, reflects the rural architectural evolution between the 18th and 19th centuries. Its protected elements, such as the killed, the chimney plate or the interior panel, testify to its heritage importance and past use.
In the 19th century, the farm underwent several expansions before sheltering a cabaret inn between 1839 and 1896. This period marks its central role in the social and economic life of the village, serving as a place of assembly and trade. The designation of historic monuments in 1992 covers not only the farm itself, but also its agricultural facilities and tank, highlighting its historical integrity.
Architecturally, the Maison du Cheval Blanc embodies local constructive traditions, with materials and amenities typical of Francomtoise farms. Its location in the centre of Bélieu reinforces its anchor in the landscape and the history of this rural commune. Today, it remains a valuable testimony to the ways of life and agricultural activities of past centuries.
