Origin and history
The farm of the Motte, located in the hamlet of Combes, was built in the last third of the eighteenth century. It perfectly illustrates the architectural model of the farms to be killed in Haut-Doubs, designed for a polyculture with a pastoral dominance. Its right-of-way has not evolved since 1816, thus preserving its original organisation: residential spaces, agricultural areas, and a blacksmith's workshop still partially intact.
This farm is distinguished by its traditional structure, including a dead man (characteristic covered area), as well as related elements such as the barn lift, the walls of the gardens and an ease in front of the forge. Ranked Historic Monument by order of 18 December 2001, it is fully protected, including its interior decorations and permanently fixed forge tools. The property is now shared between the municipality and private owners.
The site reflects the adaptation of rural constructions to the agro-pastoral needs of the region, where livestock and food crops structured daily life. The presence of an integrated forge also highlights the autonomy of the farms of the time, able to produce their own metal tools and equipment. The location in the Combes, in the Doubs, places this monument in a territory marked by mountainous relief and a climate conducive to breeding.
Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum base, confirm its precise address at 4 Rue du 8 Mai and its Insee code attached to the Commune des Combes (25160). Although the accuracy of its geographical location is considered satisfactory a priori (note 6/10), no additional details are provided on its current accessibility (visits, accommodation, or events).
