The large straw and the small straw of Prat d'Alaric, in its entirety, situated at Prat d'Alaric on Parcel No. 201 of Section AD, as delimited in red on the plan annexed to the decree: inscription by order of 22 March 2023

Origin and history

The Prat d'Alaric farm and straw is located in the Espinousse Mountains, about 800 metres above sea level, on the road between Fraisse-sur-Agout and Baisescue. Placed in a north-south-facing valley, it is mentioned in a cadastral expertise of 1837, date also worn on the lintels of the doors of the straw and housing. At that time, its economy was described as "poor", based on ploughable land dedicated to rye and meadows for herds, supplemented by woods, pastures and moors.

The architectural complex is organized around a main building, aligned east-west, forming a T plan with the glitter located to the west. This arrangement defines two distinct spaces: a courtyard to the south and a garden garden to the north, protected by hedges. The main building is flanked, to the east, by an oven, and to the west, by a small straw used as a stable, henhouse or pig soda. This type of organisation reflects a multipurpose farm, typical of mountainous areas.

The large straw and the small straw of Prat d'Alaric were listed as historical monuments by decree of 22 March 2023. These elements, located on Parcel No.201 of Section AD, are now fully protected. The property belongs to the commune of Fraisse-sur-Agout, and its preservation bears witness to the heritage importance of these rural buildings in local history.
