Origin and history

Fernet-Branca distillery is a historic monument located in Saint-Louis, Haut-Rhin department, in the Grand Est region. Built in the first quarter of the 20th century, it embodies the industrial heritage of this period, marked by the development of production and processing activities. Its architecture reflects the techniques and needs of the time, adapted to the production of spirits.

The building, located at 2 rue du Ballon, was listed as historic monuments in 1996. This official recognition underscores its heritage importance, both for its role in local economic history and for its architectural features. The distillery is part of a regional context where industry has played a key role in structuring cities and communities.

At the time of its construction, Saint Louis, like other Alsatian cities, was marked by a dynamic economy, combining crafts and emerging industries. Distilleries and other production establishments actively contributed to economic and social life, providing jobs and participating in the fame of local products. This type of monument thus reflects the evolution of industrial practices and their territorial anchoring.
