Origin and history

Moussey is a former textile factory in the municipality of Moussey, Vosges. Built in the 3rd quarter of the 19th century, it is part of a local textile industry tradition initiated in 1836 with the village's first spinning. This site, supplemented by a nearby castle built between 1858 and 1863, symbolizes the economic development of the region linked to this activity, which lasted until 1964.

Moussey's textile activity has long marked its identity, with infrastructures such as the Creneled building called Atelier and related elements (glacière, basin). These remains, protected by a decree of 17 May 1988, illustrate the industrial architecture of the period and its integration into the local landscape. Today, the spinning and its castle, although private property, remain major testimonies of the Vosges industrial heritage.

The protection of historical monuments is specifically concerned with the facades and roofs of the castle, the cooler, the basin and the creneled building. This official recognition underscores the heritage importance of the site, while preserving key elements of its technical and social history. The spinning thus embodies the transition between local craftsmanship and industrial revolution in the Vosges.
