Fontaine Bellecroix (no CADASTRE): inscription by order of 27 April 1976
Origin and history
La Fontaine Bellecroix is a fountain located in the commune of Courthézon, in the department of Vaucluse, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It has been listed as a historical monument since 27 April 1976, highlighting its heritage and architectural importance for the municipality. Its exact location is mentioned as being at the intersection of Rue de Chalon and Rue du Couvent, in the heart of the village.
The first regulations concerning the supply of drinking water and its distribution to the inhabitants of Courthézon date back to 1852. At that time, the municipality was supplied by a source located about 2 km from the centre of the village. This organization reflects the logistical and health challenges associated with access to water in rural areas in the mid-19th century, a period marked by advances in public health.
The Bellecroix fountain, owned by the municipality, thus embodies a key element of local heritage, linked to the history of urban planning and water infrastructure. Its inscription as a historical monument in 1976 attests to its cultural value and its role in the collective memory of Courthézon. No additional information is available on its architect, possible restorations or specific use beyond its primary water distribution function.
