Origin and history
The Fountain of Méounes-lès-Montrieux is a historical monument located in the village of the same name, in the department of Var (region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur). Built in the 20th century, it was listed in the inventory of Historical Monuments by order of 16 November 1949. Today it belongs to the commune and is located in the Place des Écoles, although some sources also mention an approximate address at 11 Grande Rue.
The communal fountains played a central role in the life of the Provençal villages, serving as a point of drinking water, a meeting place and a symbol of collective life. In the Var, as elsewhere in Provence, these works often reflected the importance attached to water management, a valuable resource in a Mediterranean climate region. Their preservation, like that of Méounes-lès-Montrieux, bears witness to their heritage and social value.
The location of the fountain is estimated as "passable" (note 5/10) based on available data, and its descriptive sheet on the Merimée basis indicates that it is communal property. No information is provided on its current accessibility, its possible use (rent, visits), or possible restoration work. Available sources are limited to Monumentum platforms and the Merimée database's internal data.
