Origin and history

The Pontrieux Fountain, listed as a Historic Monument, is a 17th century granite work. It stands on an elevated octagonal base of a walk, with four prominent angles adorned with polygonal terminals. Its architecture rests on a block with cut strips, surmounted by a moulded base and a summital ball. The water, falling from this ball, flows on both sides on reception stones, creating a characteristic water set.

The ensemble rises in Place Yves-Le-Trocquer in Pontrieux, in the Côtes-d The fountain, owned by the commune, was included in the inventory of Historical Monuments by order of 6 February 1964. Its location, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10), makes it a point of public heritage interest, although its current use (visit, event) is not specified in the sources.

Architecturally, the fountain illustrates the local expertise in granite size, a dominant material in the region. Concave shapes and bulging mouldings reflect the ornamental styles of the 17th century, when fountains were used as much for water supply as for the beautification of public squares. Its designation as Historic Monuments underscores its heritage value, linked to its state of conservation and its representativeness for the Breton heritage.
