Origin and history
The 18th century fountain of Bargemon is an emblematic monument located on Place Philippe Chauvier, in the heart of the village. Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 12 July 1945, it represents an architectural and water heritage typical of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Its precise location, although noted as "passable" (level 5/10), remains a central point of the municipality, as evidenced by its official address recorded in the Merimée database.
Built during the 18th century, this fountain illustrates the importance of public water points in the Provencal villages of the time. These works, often decorative and functional, played a major social role: meeting place, water supply, and sometimes collective decision-making. In Bargemon, as in other municipalities of the Var, these fountains also reflected local expertise in stone carving and water resource management.
The 1945 classification underlines the heritage value of this fountain, now owned by the commune. Although available sources (Monumentum, Merimée data) do not specify its architect or possible restorations, its protected status guarantees its preservation. Today, it remains a significant element of Bargemon's urban landscape, between historical memory and contemporary use.
