Origin and history
The Gothic fountain of Beblenheim is a historic monument located in the Alsatian village of the same name, in the department of Haut-Rhin. This Gothic-style well bears witness to the local medieval architectural heritage. Its ranking as historic monuments in 1922 underscores its cultural and historical importance to the region.
Public fountains and wells played a central role in the daily life of Alsatian villages in the Middle Ages. They served as a drinking water supply, a meeting place and a symbol of prosperity for the community. Although little precise information is available on this fountain, its Gothic style suggests a construction between the 12th and 16th centuries, when Alsace was marked by intense artisanal and commercial activity, especially wine-growing.
