Fontaine: entry by decree of 16 November 1949

Origin and history

The Fountain of Méounes-lès-Montrieux, located in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, is a 20th-century monument. It is distinguished by its inscription under the title of Historical Monuments by decree of 16 November 1949, attesting to its heritage value for the commune and its local history.

This public monument, owned by the municipality, is located in Place des Écoles, although a GPS approximation is also located at 11 Grande Rue. The accuracy of its location is considered fair (note 5/10), perhaps reflecting uncertainties related to its exact address or urban right-of-way. The fountain embodies a central element of the communal heritage, often linked to the water supply or the social life of provençal villages.

The 20th century in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur was marked by the modernization of local infrastructure, of which public fountains were an integral part. Beyond their practical usefulness, these works served as meeting points and identity symbols for the inhabitants. Their preservation, like that of Méounes-lès-Montrieux, bears witness to the municipalities' attachment to their architectural and collective heritage.
