Origin and history
The Lalley forge, located in the Isère department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, was installed at its current location in 1836. This industrial site, typical of the first half of the 19th century, illustrates the rise of local metallurgical activities related to the agricultural and artisanal needs of the period. Its operation continued until 1976, marking more than a century of uninterrupted activity.
The forge equipment included specialized tools, including a beef tie-up trade located outside and a horse tie-in trade. These schemes reflect the importance of trait animals in the rural economy of the region, where agriculture and transport were highly dependent on their labour force. The forge, along with its associated elements, was listed in the Historic Monuments by order of 30 June 1995, thereby recognizing its heritage value.
The building, including the home and workspaces, is located at 5056 Le Village à Lalley (Insee code 38204). Although GPS coordinates suggest a priori satisfactory location (note 6/10), available sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) do not specify its current accessibility to the public, whether it be visits, rentals or accommodation. Its architecture and preserved tools offer a concrete overview of traditional ironmaking techniques in the mountain environment.
