Fontaine (cad. AB 348) : Order of 21 February 1914
Origin and history
The fountain of Saint-Thivisiau, listed as a Historical Monument by order of 21 February 1914, is located on Rue Saint-Thiviziau in Landivisiau, Finistère. It is distinguished by its architecture adorned with a double row of archatures, framing bas-reliefs representing the Holy Trinity, two angels holding a shield, as well as monks and nuns in prayer. These sculpted elements emphasize its religious character and its role in community life.
The fountain supplies a public washhouse, accessible by a staircase whose retaining wall bears the above-mentioned decorations. This type of monument, typical of the Breton regions, served both as an essential water point for the inhabitants and as a place of sociability, especially for lavender trees. The accuracy of its location is estimated as poor (note 5/10), but its official address is confirmed: 1 Rue Saint-Thivisiau, 29400 Landivisiau.
Owned by the municipality of Landivisiau, the fountain is an example of utilitarian and religious architecture, reflecting local cultural and spiritual practices. The bas-reliefs, combining Christian symbols and monastic scenes, suggest a marked ecclesiastical influence, although neither their exact date nor their sponsor are specified in the available sources. The monument remains a testimony of Breton water and artistic heritage.
