Gallo-Roman mosaic (Box C 774p): Order of 17 September 1954
Origin and history
The Gallo-Roman mosaic of Seventh is a historical monument located in the department of Isère, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This vestige, dated from the Gallo-Roman period, bears witness to Roman cultural and artistic influence in this region during antiquity. Although little precise details are available on its discovery context or exact function, its classification by decree of 17 September 1954 underlines its heritage importance.
In the Gallo-Roman era, the region, then integrated into the Roman province of the Alps, was marked by a gradual romanization of local populations. The mosaics, often present in domus (urban houses) or public buildings, reflected the social status of the owners and served as luxurious decoration. This type of work illustrates the cultural exchanges between the Gaulish elites and Roman settlers, as well as the local craftsmanship adapted to Roman techniques.
Today, the mosaic is owned by the municipality of Seventh. Its exact address, 20 Place Cecillon du Perrier, allows to locate it in the village, although the accuracy of this location is considered mediocre (note of 5/10). Ranked among the Historical Monuments, it remains a material testimony of the Roman occupation in Isère, accessible according to the modalities defined by the municipality.
