Origin and history

Le Manoir du Jardin is a 16th and 18th century mansion located 1 km southwest of the village of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët, in the Manche department, in Normandy. The building, partially listed as a historical monument since 1974, is distinguished by its architecture and adjacent chapel, built in the early seventeenth century. The facades and roofs of the mansion and its chapel are protected, reflecting their heritage importance.

On August 6, 1612, Miss de Beauchesne-Bodin, owner of the mansion, obtained permission to erect a chapel there. It provides the latter with an annuity of 30 pounds for its maintenance, thus marking the religious and social anchoring of the estate. This historical detail illustrates the role of local lords in the development of rural areas at that time.

Today, the Garden House belongs to a private company. Although its access to the public is not specified in the sources, its protection as historical monuments makes it a notable architectural testimony of Lower Normandy. Available data (Merimée, Wikipedia) confirm its status as a local heritage, without providing information on possible visits or contemporary uses.
